Salmon a rama 2016
These past 9 days have been possibly the longest ever for Salmon a rama. Between brutal winds and waves we still managed to put a bunch of fish in the boat with out loosing to much gear. So much happened though out the tournament that I don't even know where to start besides half way through I was about to come out of my skin from big fish either getting off while fighting them or getting knocked off by the net. But towards the end things started clicking and our batting aver

Saturday Morning Solo Run
Saturday morning I finally was able to get out early to get some morning darkness trolling in. After a few people said they rather sleep than go out at 0300 I casted lines and headed out to where I though the big kings were roaming. Luckily I was right. i started in 50fow with an 8 color and mag spoon and two dipsy divers with flasher fly combos. I was constantly marking fish from 50' out to 74' where my 8 color took off at 0400. After a 20min fight, the largest king year to

New personal boat record steelhead!
This past week I was able to get out a handful of times between days with high winds and small craft advisories. The first day, Sunday I took a run out by myself and ended up with two nice coho's but it didn't take long for the wind to pick up and before I knew it I was trying to pull lines in 4-6' waves. Monday the winds died down and i got out for a quick two hour trip with a good friend and even though we didn't set lines until 0830 we still managed some quality fish inclu

Lake Michigan Bait Tracking
I came across a thread on chitownangler.com not to long ago saying there is a research doctor that is accepting emails with pictures of bait piles, date, time, lat/long ect. I emailed Dr. David Warner to confirm the post I saw and here was his response " What I hope to do is to try to turn what you guys see on hundreds of days a year into data that we can all use to try to understand predator-prey interactions. Once I get more than a few I intend to make a web page with a map

From Coho's to Lake Trout
What a great weekend of trolling on the big pond. Saturday Lenny and I got into a few Chinooks and coho's with one of the Chins being a 14lber. Sunday I decided to run up to Milwaukee to get in on the coho action with Brittany and despite a slow start we ended up sticking 6 of them. Monday I brought a fellow Raven Tackle Pro Staffer out for his first trip of the year and after sticking a beautiful 10lb brown, Jarrett landed a smaller coho. While working out to deeper water an

Trolling the big pond in the new rig
I finally got a break in the everything but west wind on Tuesday so I decided to capitalize on it. My tournament partner and I hit Lake Michigan around 0900 and after checking quite a few areas from 40fow to 15fow with nothing to show for it, I decided to make a run a little north and good thing I did! It didn't take long for my Lowrance to light up with bait and I knew it was only a matter of time before one of my flicker shad where going to fire. All of a sudden I head o

New Batch Of Coho Salmon
While I was at work last night watching the rain pelt the windows I knew it was only a matter of time before the rivers I fish bumped up in flow causing a new batch of fish to come in. I spent the entire night watching the stream flow gauge like a hawk until 0700 when I got out of work. With Grant Park being the most active with current, I decided to start there in the up stream sections. That proved to be a very good choice. In three drifts with the fly rod and Fishusa.c
