Steelhead, Steelhead and more Steelhead
The last few weeks have been just shy of outstanding for steelhead. Despite high waters and having to buy my time in between river blow outs, the few days I have been on rivers have been action packed. Last week was a week of firsts with a client from MN who got his first Wisconsin Steelhead on the fly. Also another beginner came out and tied into her first two steelhead and got to fight one with the Raven 14' IM8. With the cold weather hanging around, I foresee the steel

Weekend full of steelhead
While running back from Minnesota I checked the river flows and noticed that they all bumped up to perfect levels. Friday I took a coworkers husband out for steelhead and it didn't take long to tie into my first fish. Since Tony is brand new to steelheading I let him reel it in on my Raven Tackle 14' IM8 rod and Matrix fully ported reel. In the first spot we ended up getting 3 fish and in the second spot Tony finally hooked and landed his own steelhead! Saturday I ran a full

Steel, Steel and more Steel
This week has just been shy of outstanding! Despite a few days of high water on one river, low water on another and heavy foot pressure, it didn't stop the steelhead from biting. With my home river getting low and a hair clear, Creek Candy Beads were the trick the past two days, especially in the upper sections. Otherwise pink spawn sacs have done very well. I'm going to soak up more steelhead the rest of this week before the long truck to Alexandria Minnesota monday to pre f

From pan fish to steelhead
This past weekend was full of high's and low's. Friday while pre fishing in 50mph winds I did more chasing down my ATV than actual fishing which made it a pretty short day. Saturday we decided to pre fish the south end of Delavan lake and it seemed like we couldn't do anything wrong while catching large 13'' crappies and 8-9'' bluegills and a slob of a pumpkinseed. Despite blue bird skies and a warm up fishing actually became stupid as for how active the gills and crappies we

Ice Fishing for steelhead
Even though this is a little late seeing all the ice is off the Root river due to recent warm weather and rain but just before it hit I had the pleasure of running the best guide trip of the winter. I met three guys on the root and showing them how to set a few automatic fishermen I got the three of them jigging and showed them how to use the vexliar's. i wasn't able to get all the lines set before the action started. They did a great job landing five steelhead in the firs

Weekly review 12-17-15
This week was just shy of outstanding with fish being caught in the rivers and harbors. We got close to 2'' of rain the other night which put the Milwuakee and Root River out of range but another smaller river I fish dropped quick enough and a large amount of steelhead pushed in. The ticket was pink spawn sacs under my Raven float. Outlook for next week is nothing shy of phenominal. I still have a few days open and if you want to get tied into your first steelhead or brow

High water brown trout
This morning I met up with Todd and Aaron from Trail Creek Guide Service out of Indiana in hopes of getting them into a few Wisconsin browns. This trip was a trade from this summer when I went down by them for Skamina Steelhead fishing. Except for when I woke up my biggest fears came true. NOAA was calling for up to a half inch of rain over night and at the rate my rivers were dropping I was really hoping for no rain at all but guess what, we got over a half inch causing all

Brown Trout Fly Fishing
To follow up an outstanding day on the river, I ran a half day trip with the fly rod. I expected fishing to be a little tougher with the lower water levels and I was spot on. In the first spot we fished I hooked up with a small milking brown on the Centerpin and let my client (who only want to fly fish) reel in the fish. In the second spot I rolled a female brown but it popped off before I could hand the pin over. I set my client in the same spot and directed him on the area
